Historical Salt River Day School Being Rebuilt by Community-Member Hands

Dallas Construction is honored to lead the renovation of the historic Salt River Day School, a project that holds deep significance for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC). As highlighted in a recent article by O'Odham Action News, this initiative is not only about preserving a cherished landmark but also about empowering Community members through active participation in the construction process.

The original Day School, constructed between 1934 and 1935 by Community-member Phoenix Indian School students, stands as a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of past generations. In this spirit, Dallas Construction, under the leadership of SRPMIC member David Dallas, is committed to involving current Community members in the renovation efforts. This approach ensures that the restoration is a collective endeavor, fostering a sense of ownership and pride among participants.

David Dallas emphasizes the importance of Community involvement, stating, "By doing so, we are not only preserving our history, but we are also creating history for future generations." This philosophy is evident in the project's workforce composition, with an average of 20% Community-member participation, peaking at 50% during certain phases. Such engagement has been made possible through collaboration with the SRPMIC Human Resources Department and the support of Public Works.

Several Community member-owned businesses have also contributed to the project, including Heavenly Touch Cleaning, Red Mountain Engineering, Quintero Development, Dallas Pro Painting, and Stevens Cleaning Solutions. Their involvement underscores the collective effort to rebuild a site that once served as an educational cornerstone and will soon become a revitalized cultural campus for SRPMIC.

For Dallas Construction, this project represents more than a construction endeavor; it is a commitment to the Community's legacy and future. As David Dallas reflects, "A hundred years from now, Community members will look back and talk about what we did, and I hope our hard work will inspire them with the same pride that the generations before us have given to us."

We extend our gratitude to all Community members and partners involved in this meaningful project. Together, we are not only rebuilding a historic structure but also strengthening the bonds that define the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
